Satirical journalism always has a specific target—this could be a political figure, social institution, corporate practice, cultural trend, or policy. The target is typically something the audience recognizes as worthy of criticism or mockery.
2. Exaggeration and Absurdity
Writers amplify real flaws or behaviors to ridiculous proportions. This makes the underlying problem visible while entertaining the audience. The exaggeration must be recognizable enough that readers understand what’s being referenced.

Unlike pure fiction, satirical journalism typically builds on real events, quotes, or documented behaviors—then twists or amplifies them. This grounding in reality makes the satire sting.
